Girls Camp!

Britton went to Girls Camp this week! Let me explain....
Britton and I were called by the Stake Presidency to be the Stake Girls Camp Music Coordinators. What a perfect calling! We were asked to write a theme song for camp. Their theme this year was "I Can." Britton sat down the night we were called and came up with most of the lyrics. We added the guitar and a melody and it turned out great. We have tried to write a few songs together before and we get half way through and tend to get stuck. This song came so easily and we know that our Heavenly Father was helping us and giving us inspiration.

Britton was also asked to learn some hymns and camp songs on his guitar so they could sing other songs at camp. We were both really excited to go until I switched tracks. I was teaching D track, but then I got moved up to 3rd grade and A track. My first week of teaching school was this week and so was Girls Camp. So I told Britton that he was going to have to go by himself. He was a little hesitant at first, but then he warmed up to the idea and decided it would be fine.

We went around to each ward to teach the girls the song before Girls Camp so Britton wouldn't have to try and teach them the song up there. It was really fun to hear each ward sing the song that we wrote. I had Britton video tape the song while he was up there so I could hear it with the whole stake singing it. Here it is...

After he filmed the song, Britton had all the girls say thank you to me. It was so sweet. I got all teary eyed when I heard that. I wish I could have been up there, but I had to start teaching those 3rd graders! Britton loved being up there and he had some really spiritual experiences. Thanks honey for being so brave to go without me. I'm glad you had fun!

Sorry...the movie of the song is having a hard time uploading. I will keep trying to post it.

Family Camp-Out!

We decided to have a family camp-out for the 24th of July. We decided since we have little kids in the family that it would be best to have it in my parents backyard. It was so fun and relaxing. We set up the tents and then we set off homemade rockets. My brother-in-law made a homemade rocket launcher the other day, so we all decided to make rockets instead of do fireworks.

Tyler and Mandy showing off their homemade rockets!
Don't worry...Britton got on the roof and got his rocket down!

After launching a few rockets and having them land hard onto the ground and breaking, we decided to get out the parachute and catch them. Derek and the kids weren't fast enough to catch them. It was worth trying though!
Mom and Daxton enjoying the rockets. Every time we launched a rocket Daxton would laugh so hard. He loved it!
The Three Stooges (aka...Derek, Blake, and Britton)

After launching the rockets, we had a yummy KFC dinner. Then we had some more fun! We got out the silly string and started to attack! Some of the little kids got in the way of us adults, but they loved it!
It's War!
I'm pretty sure I won! Sorry hun!
Daxton was in the middle of it all. He is such an easy going baby that he could care less if he got silly string on him. He is so cute!
We ended of the night with my dad's and nephew Drew's birthday party! Happy Birthday you two handsome guys! Then we cleaned everything up and got in our tents to sleep. And then...it started raining! It was a crazy night. There was on and off rain the whole night. We didn't really care, but Britton did tell me that we have a leak in our tent and it was right over his head. I'm sorry honey. He didn't have a good nights sleep! Overall, it was a great 24th of July!

4th of July!

Yesterday morning Britton wanted to take me up in an airplane to see him fly. Of course, I was super scared, but I also trust Britton and I wanted to support him in his flying. So I decided to go up with him. It was actually so fun! It was really cool to see the Salt Lake Valley from above. Britton did an awesome job up there. I have to say that I got way nervous before we landed. I always get nervous before the landings even on big airplanes. So I was holding on for dear life with one hand and video taping Britton's landing with the other hand. The landing was awesome! I have never felt anything so smooth. I was very impressed! I am so proud of Britton and how hard he is working on becoming a pilot.

Later that night, we went over to my parents house to have a bbq and watch fireworks. We had so much fun. We had a very yummy dinner and then all of us cousins played a very competitive game of soccer. It was boys against girls and of course the girls got smoked. But oh well, we were just playing for fun. Then we roasted some marshmallows and watched fireworks. It was a great 4th of July!

Today was a good day!!!

Today was great! It was the last day of school. I have mixed emotions about this. I loved my class this year. I had some really good kids. Of course I love when school is over so I get a break, but then I also have to loose my really cute class. I will really miss them. Good thing I am teaching 3rd grade next year so I will still get to see them!

The other great thing about today was that Britton got to fly solo for the first time! About 3 weeks ago his instructor told him that he was ready to solo. He was so excited! Well, the weather has not be very cooperative lately. So he has been waiting and waiting to fly solo. So today when he left to fly, I asked him if he thought today was the day. He said yes, but then he has said that on other days so I didn't really think of it. Then...I got the text message at school that he did it! I am so proud of him!
